Market Research
- Australia's limited forest area is confined to the southeast, the island of Tasmania, and some coastal strips. The nation has moved to conserve many remaining areas of forest, but these are a small percentage of the forested extent prior to European incursion.
- Isolation from other landmasses over a geologic time scale has enabled numerous species seen nowhere else to evolve, giving Australia a unique biological heritage. It is famous for marsupial mammals and magnificent bird life. It also harbors rare plant species, many limited to a very small geographic range. Habitat loss and introduction of alien species-notoriously, the rabbit-put this heritage in peril.
- Coastal depletion is a growing threat, specifically on the Great Barrier Reef off the northeast coast. By far the largest coral reef in the world, it is threatened by increased shipping and ironically by its popularity as a tourist site.
- Limited natural fresh water resources are a chronic problem in Australia, one that will escalate as demand for water rises.
- Soil erosion has occurred in various areas as a result of overgrazing, industrial development, urbanization, and poor farming practices.
